Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Mexx Heart discovered her passion for music at a young age. Inspired by artists like Green Day, Billy Idol and Van Halen, Mexx has cultivated her own alternative sound, mixing garage-grunge with 90's viva-la-revolution lyricism. Her newest single, “All That Was Mine,” is out now!

Mexx Heart's Top Six

What makes Nashville special to you? The opportunities I have to expand in my career that I didn’t have at home. There’s a massive appreciation of business and culture that blend beautifully here. Most under-rated thing about Nashville? The small businesses. A lot of what exists here doesn’t exist anywhere else. Where else can you build your own shake and play free video games in the same city? Say you had a completely free day in Nashville—no work allowed. What would you be doing? Day trips are the best! Something I used to love to do was take overnight trips to Chicago to hang out with friends. I would drive early in the morning, stay for a few hours, and drive all the way back in the same day. It’s still as wild as I remember it. I can’t wait to do that again. What are some of your favorite Nashville restaurants? Ruby Sunshine in Hillsboro is an amazing place for breakfast/brunch. They’re omelets are to DIE for! Rock N Roll Sushi in Hillsboro is an awesome place to enjoy delicious original sushi rolls surrounded by influences of classic rock legends. It’s my boyfriend and mine’s favorite place. Baked Bear in Midtown is perfect for dessert - they let you build your own ice cream sandwich.

Of course we love your style, any favorite Nashville shops? I go to Buffalo Exchange sometimes if I wanna spend a little more, but not full retail price, when thrifting.

If someone is coming to Nashville for the first time, where do you take them? Opryland Mall. It doesn’t seem like it would be a first choice for most people but malls are like downtown areas but indoors. Every kind of retail and food imaginable with unique experiences like The Rainforest Cafe, Dave and Busters, and the Wax Museum.

One Thing About Nashville

How has Nashville influenced your music? A lot of the music I’ve released thus far toys in loss, betrayal, fear, etc. In Nashville, I’m happier, and appreciating the small things, like watching a good movie with my boyfriend or getting drinks at Chili’s with my producer.

Five Favorites

Do you have a favorite music venue? Exit/In! The last show I went to there was Plain White T’s and my friends’ band Fairview opened for them. That was also my birthday and extremely memorable. I didn’t wanna leave Nashville that night.

Favorite place to go on date night? My boyfriend and I love Game Terminal. We can’t turn down free games and affordable drinks and food. We’re both nerds so it’s perfect for us. What grocery stores do you shop? Walmart - but when I’m feeling frisky, Walmart in Franklin

Best Steak? Mine!

Best Broadway bar? The ones I don’t get kicked out of!
